The Blue Lagoon at a glance

The Blue Lagoon is a geothermal spa on the Reykjanes peninsula, and visits need advance booking. Prices are dynamic and change with the date and time slot. This guide is independent and has no link to the Blue Lagoon or to Sky Lagoon, so always confirm the current price, slot and opening status on the lagoon's own booking page.

There is a good time for every kind of trip. In winter the evening opening hours fall after dark. In summer the lagoon opens early and closes late, and the light lasts almost round the clock. Whether you see northern lights from the water depends on clear skies and cannot be promised.

Best time to go: opening hours by season

The published regular hours change four times a year. Leave the water 30 minutes before closing.

PeriodOpening hoursWhat it means for your visit
1 January to 31 May08:00 to 20:00Winter evenings are dark. In Reykjavík the sun sets at 15:43 on 1 January and at 20:19 on 1 April.
1 to 14 June08:00 to 22:00Daylight lasts about 20 hours. The sun sets after 23:00 in Reykjavík.
15 June to 20 August07:00 to 23:00The longest hours and the busiest weeks of the year.
21 August to 31 December08:00 to 22:00Dark evenings return, and the northern lights season runs roughly from September to April.

Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve have shorter hours (08:00 to 16:00 and 08:00 to 18:00 on the published list, which gives no year). Confirm them before you plan a holiday visit. These are the regular published hours. They do not guarantee that the lagoon is open on a given day, for example in a volcanic or weather disruption.

For the crowd picture, about 302,000 and 313,000 foreign passengers left through Keflavík in July and August 2025, against about 122,000 in January and 120,000 in December. If you prefer a quieter visit, a winter month is the better bet. For monthly details, see weather by month and the summer and winter guides.

Tickets and prices in 2026

Prices are for adults and shown as starting prices, because the price depends on the day and time slot.

OptionStarting price, 2026Notes
ComfortFrom 11,990 ISKThe entry ticket in the 2026 price list.
PremiumFrom 14,990 ISKA higher package at a higher starting price.
SignatureFrom 18,490 ISKThe highest of the three packages.
Reykjavík municipal pool, for comparison1,500 ISKAdult entry from 5 May 2026. Ages 10 to 17 pay 400 ISK, ages 0 to 9 are free with an adult.

Children from 2 years can enter. The reduced child rate applies up to age 11 or 12, depending on the ticket terms, so check the age limit when you book. A support page from December 2025 lists 2,000 ISK for children up to 11, and armbands are required up to age 8 and free of charge. Group packages have their own terms.

A municipal pool is a different experience at a much lower price. Towel rental is 860 ISK, swimwear rental is 1,270 ISK and a bundle of entry, towel and swimwear is 2,770 ISK in 2026. See Reykjavík for the pools in town.

Sky Lagoon: a second option

Sky Lagoon is a separate spa with its own tickets, packages and opening hours. Check them directly with that operator before you decide, because the prices and hours on this page are for the Blue Lagoon only. A good way to choose is to look at the time of year, the transfer you have and how much time you want to spend, then compare the current offers side by side.

The same seasonal logic applies to any lagoon: dark evenings in winter, light almost round the clock in summer, and the busiest bookings in July and August.

Getting there and the volcano

The lagoon names the Grindavíkurvegur, road 43, as its main access and warns that old app routes can be out of date. A transfer partner runs from Reykjavík and from Keflavík airport. Check the transfer price and times when you book. The Flybus airport transfer to Reykjavík starts at 3,999 ISK one way and takes about 45 minutes, though traffic and weather can change that.

Volcanic activity on Reykjanes is not over. The Icelandic Met Office report of 30 September 2026 describes slow uplift at Svartsengi and low seismicity. It says further magma movement towards Sundhnúkur is the most likely development and that the timing of an eruption cannot be predicted. Grindavík remained on the orange level in that report, and the volcanic warning level 2 is not the same as an orange weather warning or a general airport closure. The lagoon can close for volcanic or weather reasons, so check its opening status on the day and again before you leave.

Compare your plan with the Golden Circle if you want a land-based day, or fit the lagoon into the first or last day of your itinerary so a closure does not break the schedule.

Blue Lagoon: frequently asked questions

When is the best time to visit the Blue Lagoon?

The 2026 price list starts at 11,990 ISK for Comfort, 14,990 ISK for Premium and 18,490 ISK for Signature. The price depends on the date and slot, so the final price can be higher.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes. The lagoon requires advance booking, and prices are dynamic.

Children from 2 years can enter. The reduced rate applies up to age 11 or 12 depending on the terms, and armbands are required up to age 8 and free. Check the age limit when you book.

Is the Blue Lagoon affected by the volcano?

Volcanic activity on Reykjanes continues to be monitored, and a report from 30 September 2026 says further magma movement is possible and the timing of an eruption cannot be predicted. Check the lagoon's opening status before you travel.

Can I see the northern lights from the lagoon?

Nobody can promise it. The season runs roughly from September to April and needs dark, at least partly clear skies. The lagoon is open in the evening for much of that period.
